Madison Memorial Hospital has a registered dietitian available to provide outpatient education for any diet-related medical problem such as diabetes, insulin resistance, celiac disease, heart disease, high cholesterol, kidney failure, low salt/sodium, and food allergies. Some counseling can be covered completely in a single visit while others may take two or three visits.

Weight Management Program

Madison Memorial Hospital offers a Registered Dietitian for outpatient education for any diet-related medical problem. This weight maintenance program (for losing or gaining weight) includes diet and activity counseling as well as ideas for lifestyle changes. MMH currently charges a one-time fee of $225 for the program, which allows a patient to work with the dietitian on an as-needed basis for up to six months. Diabetes Resources

Madison Memorial Hospital has a dedicated diabetes management program recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Education for all types of diabetes or insulin resistance is available on an outpatient basis. Medicare and Medicaid, along with many other insurance policies, will pay for diabetes education. A doctor may refer a patient for education, or an individual may refer himself/herself.

Prevent Type 2 Diabetes Classes

Madison Memorial Hospital offers the Center for Disease Control’s class Prevent T2.  This is a class that has been proven to prevent or delay Type 2 Diabetes.  It focuses on weight loss and healthy lifestyle changes.  A registered dietitian and registered nurse are the instructors for this course.  It is a yearlong program and consists of weekly classes for the first two months, biweekly classes for the next 6 months and monthly classes for the last 4 months.  A new class begins each year.  The fee is $150.  Call (208) 359-6522 or (208) 359-6524 for more information.  Visit https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/basics/prediabetes.html for more details and to take a risk test.
