Diabetes Prevention Program

Madison Memorial Hospital is offering a yearlong Prevent Type 2 Diabetes Class to help you make important changes to your current lifestyle.

Beginning January 9th at 6:00 pm, this program has regular class instruction and mentors you for one year with certified life coaches. It includes information about insulin resistance and four factors that help treat pre-diabetes and prevent Type 2 diabetes. Our registered dietitians will design a specific food plan for each client based on height, weight, and age to help maintain good health.

Topics will include diet, exercise, stress reduction, coping strategies, and how activity level and exercise effect blood sugar. Lifestyle changes through small amounts of weight loss and increased activity have been show to cut the risk of Type 2 Diabetes in half!

Goals for participants:

  • Lose 5-7% of starting weight by the end of the year
  • Get 150 minutes of activity every week

Participant requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and not currently pregnant
  • Cannot have a previous diagnosis of Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
