Diabetes Resource Center

Madison Memorial Hospital is dedicated to diabetes prevention and management. Our efforts are recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Education for all types of diabetes or insulin resistance is available on an outpatient basis. Medicare and Medicaid, and most insurance plans, will pay for your steps to prevent and manage diabetes through our education classes. Ask your doctor for a referral today.

Diabetes Prevention Program

This program has class instruction and mentors you for one year with a certified life coach. It includes information about insulin resistance and four factors that help treat prediabetes and prevent Type 2 diabetes. Our registered dietitian will design a specific food plan for each client based on height, weight, and age to help maintain good health. Activity level and exercise effects on blood sugar will be taught.

Diabetes Education Class

MMH offers diabetes education classes taught by a Certified Diabetes Educator who explains causes of and treatments for diabetes, the effects of medications, how to monitor blood sugar, as well as how to incorporate activity into a diabetes plan. An individualized food plan will also be created for each client based on his/her own needs. Simple ideas for lifestyle changes are also available. Please call (208) 359-6524 to make an appointment.

Weight Management Program

Madison Memorial Hospital offers a Registered Dietitian for outpatient education for any diet-related medical problem. This weight maintenance program (for losing or gaining weight) includes diet and activity counseling as well as ideas for lifestyle changes. MMH currently charges a one-time fee of $225 for the 6-month program, which allows a patient to work with the dietitian on an as-needed basis for up to six months.
