Nuclear Medicine

For a nuclear medicine exam, a radioactive isotopes are introduced into the patient’s body. The nuclear medicine camera measures the radioactivity from the patient’s body to evaluate the function of specific organs.

Examples of exams performed at our facility include cardiac stress tests for heart function, bone scans for infection, cancer or inflammation, and lung scans for COPD and pulmonary embolism (blood clot), as well as tests for the liver, and gallbladder.

The radioactivity only lasts for a few hours and does limits harm the patient.
