Ultrasound Exams Available at Madison Memorial Hospital
Abdomen
- Abdomen Complete – Looks at liver, pancreas, gallbladder, kidneys, and spleen
- Renal – Looks at kidneys and bladder
Pelvic
- Female Pelvic Complete (Transabdominally) – Looks at uterus and ovaries.
- Pelvic Transvaginal – Looks at the uterus and ovaries through the vagina. *Must be sexually active*
OB
- OB< 14 weeks – Include abdominal & vaginal scan. Looks at uterus, ovaries, and fetus.
- OB Anatomy Complete – Abdominal scan at all anatomy fetus.
- OB Limited – Abdominal scan that looks at fetus well-being and much baby weighs. Also could tell the dates of baby due date.
- BPP – Biophysical profile. Checks for fetus well-being including fetal breathing, baby moving and amniotic fluids measurements.
Vascular
- Arterial – Looks at any arteries in legs or arms
- Carotid – Looks at arteries in the neck
- Aorta – Looks at the abdominal aorta artery to rule out aneurysm
- Venous- Looks at any vein in the legs or arms
- Renal – Looks at arteries in the kidney
- ABI – Ankle Brachial Index – Compare the pressures in the arteries of the arms and legs
Small Parts
- Thyroid – Looks at the gland in the neck
- Scrotum – Looks at the testicles and the contents in the scrotum sac
Musculoskeletal
- Shoulder
- Bicep

PEDS
- Abdomen Complete – Looks at liver, pancreas, gallbladder, kidneys, and spleen.
- Pyloric Steriosis – To check if the stomach sphincter is enlarged which may cause projectile vomiting
- Echoencephalogram – Looks at infant brain
- Infant Hip
- Infant Spine
Breast
- Right, left or bilateral breast to look at any lump, bump, or anything found on mammogram.
- Breast Cyst Aspiration – Drain a cyst in the breast
- Breast Biopsy – Removal of suspicious tissue in the breast for testing
- Breast Needle Loc – Placement of wire to the breast lump for the surgeon to remove it
Soft Tissue
- Soft Tissue Neck – Look at any lump or bump felt on the neck.
- Soft tissue mass – Look at any lump or bump felt on the body
Intravenous Radiology
*Uses ultrasound to guide the radiologist through a procedure
- US Guided Thoracentesis – Drain fluid from the lung
- US Guided Paracentisis – drain fluid from the abdomen
- FNA – Fine Needle Aspiration – Take small amount of tissue from lump or bump to have tested
- US Guided Cyst Aspiration – Drain cyst or fluid pocket
- US Guided PICC Placement – Helps to find a vein in the arm to place a central line
Hernias
- Inguinal – Grain is scanned for hernia
- Abdominal/Umbilical – Stomach is scanned for hernia
