Volunteers, Interns, Externs, and Shadows

How do I volunteer? For a list of available opportunities, email Kate Turnbow at [email protected], or call her at 208-359-6439, ext. 7703.

What vaccinations are required? For volunteers who will be in patient areas and patient rooms, the following vaccines are recommended but not required:

      • Influenza
      • Tdap
      • Hepatitis B
      • MMR
      • COVID-19 up-to-date booster
      • TB screening

Volunteers in non-clinical areas (marketing, accounting, materials management, etc.) are recommended to receive the influenza and COVID vaccines.

NOTE: It’s important that you NOT come into the hospital if you’re not feeling well. If  you’re running a temperature of 100.0 or higher, or you don’t feel well enough to work, please stay home until your symptoms have resolved. After that, when you return to the hospital, pay particular attention to mask-wearing, hand hygiene and self-monitoring for any recurring signs and/or symptoms of illness.

How do I get started? First, do the training below, then fill in the form. If your volunteer work is going to take you into clinical (i.e., patient-facing) areas, plan on bringing your current immunization records (COVID-19, measles, mumps, rubella, tuberculosis screening, TDAP, and influenza) with you when you meet with the Volunteer Services secretary.

For high school externship questions, contact Suzanne at 208-359-6734.

What else is required? You’ll be given additional paperwork to complete. You’ll need to provide your Social Security number along with other relevant information, so we can perform a background screening. Your ability to serve as a volunteer hinges on your submitted immunization information and your background check.

Thanks for being willing to give your time! Volunteering at a nonprofit, public-serving institution like Madison Memorial is one of the purest forms of service you can give.
