When he was a senior at Madison High School in Rexburg, Kelly went snowboarding one day at Targhee Resort, where he had an accident and fractured his femur. A rod and screws were placed in the bone, and he spent a lot of time after that with an excellent physical therapist. This experience was what initially made him interested in the field.
